Role and Focus

While the following is very much simplistic, I hope it gives a feel for where roles within a hierarchy should be focused and where their influence.  Where do you think you sit?

Team Member

• Think about: This task and today

• Focus area: Task.

• Influence: Focus on doing the task at hand as well as possible

Team Leader

• Think about: Today and next week

• Focus area: Operational and problem solving

• Influence: Ensuring the team functions well and is able to deliver planned and or expected work next week

Manager

• Think about: Next month

• Focus area: Operational and improvement

• Influence: Any change made is unlikely to effect this month but should improve next month

Senior Manager

• Think about: Next quarter

• Focus area: Strategic

• Influence: To prepare for and improve next quarters performance

Director

• Think about: Next year

• Focus area: Strategic

• Influence: Organisational, system, and market changes to prepare for the future.

Executive

• Think about: Three years time

• Focus area: Strategic

• Influence: Providing the long term vision, direction and guidance for the business as a whole.
